We work very hard to insure that you are provided with clean, well
maintained cabins and grounds. There are few things that annoy me
more than trash on the ground and roadways, particularly in the
Please do not leave any trash, including cigarette butts, in the national
forest or on our property. If trash remains inside or outdoors that is not
contained in a waste receptacle, your security deposit will be forfeited. Fire
pits are not waste receptacles for items that do not burn, such as
glass and aluminum cans. We do, however, encourage you to
burn boxes and the like to lessen the amount of trash we have to
haul away after your departure.
Both cabins are equipped with a trash can in the kitchen, the bedrooms, the
bathroom, on the screened porch and outside. Aluminum can recycling
containers are provided in the kitchen, on the screened porch and outside.
The campground has a trash barrel and an aluminum can recycling barrel.
If your trash cans become full, please remove and tie the bag and
replace it with the trash bags provided for you. Full bags can be stored on
the screened porches at the cabins or in the shed at the campground. Bags
of trash should not be left outdoors and please, do not throw
away unwanted food in the woods. Doing so attracts unwanted
critters, particularly skunks, coyotes and stray dogs.
Unfortunately, some visitors to the national forest, particularly at the rivers, arrogantly
choose to leave trash behind, usually piled up in an extinguished fire. On many occasion we
have carried a trash bag with us to the river to remove the debris as a courtesy to the next
guy and in an effort to preserve the raw beauty of the land that belongs to us all. Please be a
good sport whenever you can. We certainly don't want your vacation to be spent picking up
trash, but if every visitor to the national forest and Missouri's scenic riverways were to pack
out even a couple pieces of garbage so rudely left behind by others, the world will be a
better place. Removing even a tiny gum wrapper thrown out a car window is beneficial to
our ecology and helps maintain the gorgeous landscape. It is always uplifting to eliminate
trash left behind by others; sort of a good deed for the day. We won't mention the words
that are mumbled while picking up others' trash, except for "your momma raised you
wrong!" Your help to keep your Missouri heritage clean is appreciated.
